Position Title: Intermediate Grade Teacher
Employment Type: Full-Time
Location: Northwest Christian School, Newton, NJ 

Job Summary

We are seeking a Christ-centered, dedicated educator who is qualified to teach in either one of our intermediate grades. The ideal candidate will inspire students to achieve academic excellence while nurturing their spiritual growth. This position requires a commitment to integrating Biblical principles into teaching and fostering a positive learning environment that encourages intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and Christian character development.

Responsibilities

Academic Instruction

  • Plan and deliver lessons aligned with state and school standards, incorporating a Biblical worldview into all subject areas.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic and developmental needs of students.
  • Use a variety of teaching methods, including hands-on activities, technology, and collaborative learning, to engage students and deepen understanding.
  • Encourage the development of strong foundational skills in core subjects, including math, reading, writing, science, and social studies.

Spiritual Formation

  • Model Christ-like behavior in interactions with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Lead daily devotions, prayer, and discussions that promote spiritual growth.
  • Incorporate Scripture and Biblical principles into classroom instruction and character-building activities.

Classroom Management

  • Create a safe, organized, and respectful classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Establish and communicate clear expectations for behavior, using positive reinforcement and Biblical discipline strategies.
  • Promote responsibility, teamwork, and leadership among students.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Maintain open, ongoing communication with parents to support student success, including progress reports, parent-teacher conferences, and weekly updates.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and support staff to ensure a cohesive and effective educational program.
  • Participate in professional development, faculty meetings, and school activities.

 

Additional Duties

  • Supervise students during non-instructional times, such as recess, lunch, or chapel.
  • Assist with school-wide events, including chapel services, field trips, and extracurricular activities.
  • Support the mission and vision of the school as directed by administration.

 

Qualifications

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
  • State teaching certification (any U.S. state) and/or Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) certification is preferred or a willingness to obtain certification.

Experience

  • Prior experience teaching intermediate grades preferred, particularly in a Christian or private school setting.

Spiritual Requirements

  • Demonstrated personal commitment to faith in Jesus Christ and active participation in a local church, Bible centered evangelical Church.
  • Agreement with the school’s Statement of Faith and mission.

Skills

  • Strong instructional and classroom management skills.
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Creativity in lesson planning and the ability to foster a love for learning.
  • Capability to integrate Biblical principles seamlessly into all areas of instruction.

  • Maintain a Christ-centered classroom that reflects the mission and values of the school.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and Christ-like behavior in all interactions.
  • Engage in professional growth through training, reflection, and collaboration.
